The concept for this installation centers around the despicable practice of Mountaintop Removal Mining in rural Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee and Kentucky. This practice permanently ruins small communities and wildlife habitats by blowing off the tops of mountains to reach coal seams, then dumping the rubble (or "overburden") in the valleys below.
